Welcome to Sail Boat Plans! We love sail boats, sailing and have recently become interested in building a sailboat. Normally, we would just sketch up a drawing in Autocad or Sketchup, get some basic specifications and go to work. However, we recognize that designing a sail boat is slightly more complicated than furniture, a go cart, a deck, a chicken coop, or any of the other things we’ve built over the years. There are some significant safety considerations when it comes to building a sail boat or any boat for that matter so we’ve decided to learn more about the process before designing our own boat. Part of that process includes taking some engineering courses on designing and building boats. Obviously, sail boats are different than a power boats and require different structural requirements. However, you do not have to wait for us to learn about sail boats to get a good set of plans. There are companies out there with engineers on staff that have phenomenal plans. We’ve looked at them! It’s probably the first thing that made us realize, despite a structural engineering background, that we weren’t quite ready to design a sail boat! So, throughout this website, we’re going to cover some basic sailing topics, review some great places to go sailing, cover some basic sailing terminology and review some plans that we found useful.
